Description: The Annual sports day function ‘Urja Utsav’ was held on 20th May, 2019 in the school ground of the Gonzaga block. On this day, the atmosphere of the school took a festive look. The parents and students came in large numbers to enjoy the sports day of Loreto Convent.
The program began with the welcoming of the Chief Guest Mr. Sanjeev Gandhi IPS officer, presently working as commandant of HPAP first battalion of state police.
The sports day offered a unique possibility for individuals to empower themselves and reach their full potential. The Chief Guest Mr.Sanjeev Gandhi took the salute of the impressive March Past of the students which was followed by some stirring marching music by the band.
The sports day began with the lighting of the torch by the Chief Guest. A welcome dance was presented by the students of classes VII & VIII, the theme being the origin of dance. This was followed by the prize distribution for the Athletic meet held for the students from classes IX to XII. Medals along with merit and participation certificates were given away to the winners by the Principal along with the Chief Guest.
The much awaited track and field event started as the athletes of Loreto Convent ran for the finishing line. The school campus reverberated with enthusiastic cheers from the spectators. With their shining dresses and young energy the students captivated the audience leaving them smiling and waiting with enthusiasm for the next event.
The students from classes IX to XII participated in different class activities like Book Balancing, Ring a Cone, Skipping Relay, Hoop Passing, Hockey Dribbling, Three legged Race, Tug-O-War and many more. The spectators were particularly enthused by the performances of the students. Tug-O-War is an event which revolves around sheer strength and coordination of the teams. It had the entire audience enthralled as Ashok House and Mary Ward House pulled away to victory, engaging their muscular strength to the fullest. In the end, despite all odds, the Ashok House pulled a win, thus ending a tense fight.
The students of class X performed to the energetic music of Zumba Aerobics. The parents were enthralled by the mesmerizing music of Zumba Aerobics. The prizes were given away by the Chief Guest along with the Principal for the participants of class activities and relay races. In his concluding speech, the Chief Guest praised the endeavors of the school. He highlighted the necessity of sportsmanship.
The Principal felicitated the Chief Guest and thanked the parents and staff for their support and encouragement that lent charm to the event. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The trophy for the best March Past was shared by Mary Ward and Tagore House. The Trophy for the Best Activities was awarded to Nehru House. The prize for Best Athlete was awarded to Pious Chauhan of XII Humanities.
The gathering disappeared after witnessing a closing ceremony that would give people reasons to return for the Annual Sports Day the next year as well.
