Description: An awareness session on menstrual cycle and personal hygiene was conducted by Dr.Madhu and Mrs.Krishna from Anadale Primary Health Centre on 20th June, 2019 in the middle school auditorium.
The session aimed to demonstrate the importance of maintaining a good personal hygiene. Stress was laid on the importance of cleanliness to prevent diseases. The students were motivated to shampoo their hair and apply oil body oil to moisturize the body and keep it warm. Regular hormonal excretions make the hair oily, therefore hair should be regularly washed and combed. In case of dandruff, anti-dandruff shampoos can be used.
Guidelines were given regarding dental hygiene to avoid the diseases of the mouth cavity. Regular change of tooth brushes, use of toothbrushes with soft bristles, intake of calcium through citrus fruits was recommended. The students were asked to avoid putting sharp objects into the ears. The students were asked to wash their feet twice a day, dry then and change their socks regularly. Hands should be washed regularly and thoroughly before and after eating and using the washrooms. The students were informed about menstrual hygiene. International Menstruation Day is observed on 28th May every year. Maintaining good hygiene is very important especially during adolescence. Students should use sanitary napkins and change them every six hours to prevent foul smell and infections. The sanitary napkins should be wrapped in a newspaper and then thrown in dustbin. The napkins can also be disposed in incinerators. A movie on menstrual hygiene was also shown to the students. It was an insightful as well as fruitful session.
